Brief Bio

Urbanito Dizon is an artist and a committed social activist during his days.

He spoke for the masses, particularly in the area of human rights. Dizon is loved by his people in his country because he doesn’t like to see other been maltreated.

 

Childhood

Urbanito Dizon was born on October 8, 1949, in Malabon, a city in the northern part of Metro Manila, Philippines.

He is the eldest son of seven children of their parents.

He developed love for art at a tender age and went on to develop it as he grew by constsnt drawing.

Parents

Urbanito Dizon’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Dizon. They are from Malabon, a city in the northern part of Metro Manila Philippines.

They are rural farmers who used their farm produce to train their children.

 

Education:

The love for art made him take up the challenge of succeeding in his industry.

Dizon earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila.

This earned him a scholarship from the French government.

He went on to study at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France.

 

Artist Career

His Career is an example to every artist out there that desires to make a living from art.

Dizon began his career as an artist in the 1970s with other artists who used their artwork to raise awareness of social issues.

Through his bold colored drawing, he produces realistic drawings of nature including ancient Philippines mythology, history, leadership and behavior of the ancient people of his country.

He so much love what he does. He is a founding member of the Kaisahan ng mga Artista sa Sining at Adhikain (KASIBULAN).

He also worked as A teacher where he teaches history and art.

 

Awards

  • 2009 – Outstanding Filipino Artist by National Commission for Culture and Arts.
  • 2015 – Philippine Pavilion at the 2015 Venice Biennale participant
  • Dizon participated in other drawing contests.

 

Cause of Demise

Dixon Passed away on the 17, 2020. But his art lives in the heart of those that come across it.

His contributions to society through his art show the power of art to effect change in society.  He will be missed by those who cherish his art works.
