Early Life
Samaresh Majumdar was born on March 10, 1944 in Gairkata, Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal, India. He grew up in the small town of Santinekatan, where he developed interest in writing. Samaresh was trained by his parents and he schooled with his siblings..
Education
He attended Jalpaiguri Zilla School, Jalpaiguri. Before acquiring his bachelor’s degree in Bengali literature from Scottish Church College in Kolkata. Then a Master’s in Bengali Literature from University of Calcutta India.
Career
Majumdar made his writing debut in 1965 with the novel Titled “Dour,” although it was highly criticized but it set the foundation for his successful writing career.
From.ghe beginning of his career, he wrote on social and political issues, he tried to human relationships and society. His style of writing made Indian fall in love with him. He was known for his Animesh series of novels, the second of which (Kalbela) won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1984 and he remained among the best writer in India.

Cause of Death
Bengali writer from West Bengal, India Samaresh Majumdar passed away on 8th May, 2023 at exactly 5:45 pm in Kolkata after being hospitalized for COPD complications. The cause of his death is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) according to his hospital REPORTS. He died at the age of 79 years.
